Emanuel Actarian

Après avoir obtenu un baccalauréat en génie mécanique à Bucarest et un autre baccalauréat en philosophie à Paris, Emanuel Actarian a été bibliographe à la bibliothèque nationale de Roumanie (entre 1996 et 2004), où il a conçu et réalisé une nouvelle série de la bibliographie nationale roumaine. Détenteur d’une maîtrise en en
sciences de l’information, il occupe le poste de bibliothécaire-catalogueur à la Bibliothèque de l’Université d’Ottawa, où il catalogue, entre autres, les documents cartographiques de l’institution.

Jean-Luc Arnaud

Jean-Luc Arnaud

Jean-Luc Arnaud est directeur de recherches au Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique. Architecte et historien de formation, il est spécialiste des villes de l’Orient arabe pendant la période contemporaine. Il est l’auteur d’une soixantaine d’articles scientifiques et de plusieurs ouvrages dont « Analyse spatiale, cartographie et histoire urbaine » (Parenthèses, 2008). Depuis le milieu des années 2000, J.-L. Arnaud se consacre à la valorisation du patrimoine cartographique. A ce titre il a fondé le site web CartoMundi – Valorisation en ligne du patrimoine cartographique dont il est actuellement le responsable pour le compte de l’Université d’Aix-Marseille, au sein de la Maison éditerranéenne des sciences de l’homme à Aix-en-Provence.

Rebecca Bartlett has been a fan of the Olympics since her childhood and the GIS and Digital Resources Librarian at Carleton University since November 2012. Following numerous questions from students about various online mapping websites and a lack of resources comparing the options, she and her colleague Joël took on the task of making their own comparison. The only official Olympic sport she currently participates in is curling, where she is renowned for weak sweeping and falling out of the hacks.

Yves Beaudoin est détenteur d’un doctorat en géographie, spécialisée en télédétection et cartographie; il enseigne au Département de géographie de l’UQAM depuis plus de 25 ans et a travaillé à la Division Environnement d’Hydro-Québec. Il est spécialisé dans les îlots de chaleur, a participé à plusieurs missions en Afrique de l’Ouest portant sur l’implantation des Systèmes d’Information Géographique et s’intéresse au développement d’outils cartographiques web dans les environnements open source.

Colleen Beard

Colleen Beard is Head of the Map, Data & GIS Library at Brock University. She holds a BSc degree in Physical Geography and Geology, and a Master of Library and Information Science. She is committed to promoting geospatial literacy on campus, and more recently to the wider community through an initiative Geomatics Niagara. Her passion, or addiction rather, is utilizing emerging technologies to stage the rich historical map collections for locals to explore. Her recent publication reveals some of these stories, Mapping the Welland Canals and the St. Lawrence Seaway with Google Earth, in Historical GIS Research in Canada, edited by Jennifer Bonnell and Marcel Fortin.

Mr. Stefano Biondo holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geography from the UQAM and a Master’s degree in Information Science from the University of Montréal. Over the past few years, he has developed an expertise in the management and dissemination of geospatial data within academic libraries. He is behind the creation of the Centre d’information géographique et statistique (Centre GéoStat) of the Library of the Université Laval, where he has been map librarian since 2005, and participates in the acquisition, reservation, and development of cartographic and geospatial collections. He also co-authored the recently-published book L’Apparition du Nord selon Gérard Mercator.

Bachelier en Géomatique et membre de l’Ordre des arpenteurs-géomètres du Québec, M. Jean-François Boucher détient aussi une certification PMP du Project Management Institute (PMI). Après quelques années en pratique privée, Monsieur Boucher s’est joint au Bureau de l’arpenteur général du Ministère des Ressources naturelles du Québec en 1996. Il y occupe présentement le poste de Chef du Service des registres du domaine de l’État depuis 2009. Il possède une vingtaine d’années d’expérience dans le domaine de la géomatique, dont plus d’une dizaine dans la mise en oeuvre de projets informatiques d’envergure tels le Système de gestion du greffe de l’arpenteur général, le Registre du domaine de l’État et le Greffe de l’arpenteur général du Québec en ligne.

Marc Chikhani est professionnel des SIG au ministère des Transports du Québec. Il est détenteur d’un baccalauréat en biologie (environnement) et d’un DESS en systèmes d’information géographique. Il s’intéresse aux nouvelles technologies en SIG, plus particulièrement aux technologies ouvertes, ainsi qu’aux dimensions géographiques des problématiques environnementales contemporaines.

Marcelle Cinq-Mars est historienne et archiviste des affaires militaires à Bibliothèque et Archives Canada depuis plus de sept ans. Elle a publié plusieurs ouvrages portant sur la Première Guerre mondiale.

Cynthia Dietz

Cynthia Dietz is the GIS Environmental Studies Librarian at the University of Manitoba. She has an MS in Marine Environmental Studies from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and a MLIS from Syracuse University. Cynthia has been acquiring and distributing geospatial data to patrons and researchers at the University of Manitoba for the last two and half years. She has offered patrons basic workshops in the use of GIS products including ArcGIS and Geomatica 2013.

Jonathan Dorey

Jonathan Dorey

Jonathan Dorey is a Ph.D. candidate at the McGill University School of Information Studies in Montréal. His doctoral research focuses on the needs and expectations of history undergraduates with regards to access to digital archives. His primary fields of study are language and information, information behaviour, information and archival literacy, archival use and reuse. Since 2011, Jonathan has been an active participant to the Archival Education and Research Institute (AERI), a yearly summer institute on archival research and teaching held in the United States. He has also been lecturer at the McGill School of Information Studies and at Université de Montréal’s École de bibliothéconomie et des sciences de l’information. Jonathan holds an MLIS from McGill University (2010), a graduate certificate in website and software localization from
Université de Montréal (2008) and a bachelor’s degree in translation and East-Asian studies from Université de Montréal (2002). He is a certified translator since 2005. Jonathan has worked at BG Communications and Harris Interactive in Montréal as a professional translator, at Google Montréal as a local bilingual taxonomy specialist and at CEDROM-SNi as a librarian.

Erin Forward has over eight years’ experience working with GIS and maps in academic libraries and is currently the Geospatial Data Librarian at Queen’s University. She has an Honours B.A. in Geography with a concentration in Geomatics and Spatial Analysis and a Master of Information Studies from the University of Ottawa. Her research interests include metadata, geospatial literacy and geohumanities.

Karen Jensen

Karen Jensen was appointed Head, Bibliographic Access in the Collection Services division of the Concordia University Libraries in January 2011. Karen has a B.Sc. Major in Geography and an M.L.I.S. from McGill University. Karen was first appointed as a librarian at McGill University in 1988 and held the title of Science Cataloguing Librarian from 1990-2010. Karen was a lecturer in Concordia University’s Library Studies Program during 1993 and 1994 and is now a trainer for two Catalogers Learning Workshop courses (managed by the Program for Cooperative Cataloging, Library of Congress, and the American Library Association).

Larry Laliberté is a librarian with over ten years’ experience working with GIS and spatial data. Currently he is the GIS Librarian at the University of Alberta where much of his work revolves around analyzing and synthesizing spatial information at many scales, across many disciplines, in various formats. Over the last decade, he has developed and maintained an online collection of historical maps of Manitoba and recently, taken a great interest in developing best practices for the long term preservation of digital geospatial data.

Simon Mercier

Simon Mercier débute sa carrière dans la fonction publique québécoise en 1995 à La Financière Agricole du Québec puis au Ministère de la Sécurité publique en 2007 où il participe à l’implantation d’une infrastructure technologique open source pour répondre aux besoins de cartographie en ligne. Désirant relever de nouveaux défis et soucieux d’offrir un service-conseil de qualité et indépendant, il entame en 2010 une nouvelle carrière à titre d’entrepreneur en géomatique. Il est maintenant vice-président de Solutions Mapgears à Québec, une firme d’experts-conseils spécialisée en cartographie Web basée sur l’utilisation de logiciels libres.

Nathalie Michaud est titulaire d’un baccalauréat en sciences géomatiques et d’une maîtrise en télédétection de l’Université Laval. Depuis 2008, elle est à l’emploi du ministère des Ressources naturelles, à titre de conseillère en géomatique au sein du Bureau de l’information géographique gouvernementale.

Richard Mongeau

Richard Mongeau

Richard Mongeau est arpenteur-géomètre, chef de l’Équipe de la cartographie et des levés spéciaux à la Division de la géomatique de la Ville de Montréal. Il est diplômé en sciences géodésiques de l’Université Laval (B.Sc.A. (arpentage) 1984, M.Sc. (géodésie) 1989) et membre de l’Ordre des Arpenteurs-Géomètres du Québec (1988). En début de carrière, il a exercé sa profession dans la discipline de l’arpentage foncier pour cheminer au cours des années 1990 vers la cartographie, la géodésie et la micro-géodésie. Depuis 2010, il est reconnu comme grand expert par la Ville de Montréal dans le domaine de l’application des technologies d’acquisition et de traitement des données géospatiales. Son équipe œuvre principalement dans les activités 3D de représentation territoriale et de mesurage de précision aux fins de projets d’aménagement urbain et d’ingénierie de construction. Elle fait également figure de chef de file au Québec dans la réalisation de la maquette numérique du milieu urbain et son respect à la Charte d’éthique de la 3D.

Rosa Orlandini

Rosa Orlandini is the Map and GIS Librarian at York University. She has a BSc in Geography and Biology from University of Winnipeg, Diplôme d’études supérieures spécialisées en systèmes d’information géographique from Université du Québec à Montréal and a MLIS from McGill University. She attended her first ACMLA conference in Montreal in 2001. She is currently the President of ACMLA. In her spare time she explores Toronto with the goal of visiting all of the 98 (soon to be 100) branches of the Toronto Public Library system.

Simon Ouellet

À travers l’obtention de son baccalauréat au département de Géographie de l’Université du Québec à Montréal et par la réalisation de travaux cartographiques pour des organismes environnementaux, Simon Ouellet a pu approfondir ses connaissances en géomatique. Depuis, il est candidat à la maîtrise professionnelle en Aménagement du territoire et en système d’information géographique de l’Université du Québec à Montréal et il est dirigé par le professeur Yves Baudouin. Il s’intéresse principalement à l’utilisation des logiciels « Open Source» pour la réalisation d’une cartographie web. Parallèlement, il est stagiaire au sein du ministère du Transport, à la Direction des Laurentides-Lanaudière, où il met en place une application cartographique web afin de diffuser les fermetures et les ouvertures de routes pour le Module Monitoring et sécurité civile.

Anne-Marie Plante est détentrice d’un baccalauréat en géographie avec un champ d’application en science de l’information géographique, jumelé à une formation technique en géomatique. Elle travaille au sein du gouvernement du Québec depuis 18 ans en gestion et exploitation de l’information géographique. Depuis avril 2012 au sein du ministère des Affaires municipales, des Régions et de l’Occupation du territoire, elle coordonne le développement des outils de diffusion en soutien à l’aménagement du territoire et l’intégration de bases de données standardisées et partageables pour les organisations municipales et gouvernementales. En tant que chargée de projet, elle est responsable de la mise en place de l’application Territoires.

Natif de la Beauce au Québec, Gaétan Poulin a fait des études en géomatique et en environnement à l’Université du Québec à Montréal, en Géographie à l’université de Montréal et en administration à l’Université McGill. Il a œuvré en géomatique depuis les années 90 pour des entreprises privées, groupe de recherche universitaire, ministères et organismes québécois. Depuis 2008 il est coordonnateur à la Division de la géomatique du ministère des Transports à Montréal. Il s’intéresse notamment aux applications
cartographiques et outils de catalogage et de diffusion et normes qui s’y rattachent.

Before taking this position three years ago, Joel was the GIS/Data Technician in MADGIC for over seven years. He has an honours degree in Geomatics with a minor in Environmental Studies and he’s currently enrolled in the Masters of Information Studies at the University of Ottawa.

Léon Robichaud

Léon Robichaud

Professeur à l’Université de Sherbrooke, Léon Robichaud est spécialiste de l’histoire sociale du politique et des sciences humaines numériques. Il s’intéresse particulièrement au milieu montréalais avant 1800, associant son intérêt pour les rapports socio-politiques à l’étude de l’espace et de la population. Ses recherches actuelles portent sur l’évolution des institutions de la justice à Montréal et aux Trois-Rivières aux XVIIe et XVIIIe siècles.
Ancien membre du
Groupe de recherche sur Montréal du Centre Canadien d’Architecture, il a mis en ligne les données du groupe en 1997 et il a co-dirigé le projet Virtual Historic Savannah de
2001 à 2004. Un des concepteurs des inventaires patrimoniaux de la ville de Montréal, il a aussi mis en ligne la version initiale de l’inventaire des lieux de culte du Québec et fut consultant pour la refonte du Répertoire du patrimoine culturel du Québec. Co-directeur de La Torture et la vérité : Angélique et l’incendie de Montréal, un des Grands mystères de l’histoire canadienne, accessibles du niveau primaire au niveau universitaire, il a participé à la création du projet Sociétés et Territoires, destiné aux élèves du primaire. En collaboration avec Jean-Pierre Le Glaunec, Léon Robichaud co-dirige Le marronnage à Saint-Domingue (Haïti). Histoire, mémoire, technologie. Il est présentement co-directeur du Laboratoire d’histoire et de patrimoine de Montréal et du projet en partenariat Montréal, plaque tournante des échanges.

Gerald Romme

For over 12 years Gerald Romme has been employed as a GIS Analyst at the Map & Data Library at the University of Toronto. He received a BA in geography at St. Mary’s University, a diploma in cartography at the College of Geographic Sciences (COGS) and a GIS Applications Specialists diploma at Sir Sandford Fleming College. Prior to working in the Map and Data Library he has worked on volume II of the Historical Atlas of Canada as well as on the Atlas of Saskatchewan.

Louis-Pascal Rousseau, Ph.D (histoire – Université Laval / École des hautes études en sciences sociales à Paris) et chercheur postdoctorant associé au McNeil Center for Early American Studies, à l’Université de Pennsylvanie. Daniel Rueck

Daniel Rueck is Faculty Lecturer at in the Dept. of History and Classical Studies at McGill University. He recently held an FQRSC postdoc at the Robarts Centre for Canadian Studies at York University (Toronto). Rueck’s research concerns the environmental and legal history of Indigenous lands in North America, the history of land surveying and cartography, and Canadian settler colonialism in global context. His forthcoming book concerns the history of land tenure and Canadian colonialism in the Mohawk community of Kahnawake.

Allison M. Smith

Allison M. Smith is a student at Carleton University in the MA in Public History Program. Her primary focus is on Black history in Canada, but she has also done research on Black history in Haiti and the U.S. As well, she is interested in diverse modes of presenting and experiencing history. Accordingly, she has made a documentary film about Black slave Marie Joseph Angelique, in Montréal, and produced an online exhibit about Black history in Canada. She also recently composed music and lyrics for, and performed, a song about Black history in North America. She is presently working on a summer internship at Parks Canada in their Heritage Lighthouse Program and is beginning to work on research for her Master’s Research Essay about nineteenth century Black newspaper editor and abolitionist Mary Ann Shadd Cary.

Doris St-Jacques is a paper conservator in the Maps and Manuscripts Conservation Lab, at Library and Archive Canada’s Preservation Center in Gatineau, Quebec. She is a graduate of the Arts Conservation Techniques program at Sir Sanford Fleming College in Peterborough, Ontario and began working at Library and Archives Canada in 1994, while still a student. From 2006-2010, Doris served on the Executive Board of the Canadian Association of Conservation and has participated in a variety of multi-institutional conservation studies and projects.

Barbara Znamirowski

Barbara Znamirowski

Barbara M. Znamirowski holds a Bachelor degree from Queen’s University and a Master of Library and Information Studies from Dalhousie University. She is Head of the Maps, Data & Government Information Centre at Trent University Library and ESRI Site License Administrator for Trent. Her current research interests include regional HGIS, pedagogical approaches to expanding data literacy on campus, and effective content management of web sites for maps, data and government publications. Her most recent publications include a chapter, “Stories of People, Land, and Water: Using Spatial Technologies to Explore Regional Environmental History” in Historical GIS Research in Canada (Jennifer Bonnell and Marcel Fortin, editors).
